Product Description

It has been stated that from the abundant presence of carotenoids in our diets that the human retina only and selectively accumulates lutein and zeaxanthin. This has been refuted during the past few years by several investigators. It has, for instance, been found that also lycopene another carotenoid is deposited in the macula and will assist in the control of free radicals accumulating in the tissue of the eye.

It is beyond any dispute that antioxidants play an important role in the protection of the various parts of the eye and especially, the macula and the general area of the retinal region.

The absence of macular pigments has been implicated as a potential risk factor in age-related macular degeneration (known as AMD). Macular degeneration appears to be one of the most prevalent causes of vision loss and even blindness in the elderly population.

It has been estimated that alone in the United States 15 to 17 million Americans may exhibit some symptoms of AMD and several millions are actually suffering from functional blindness.

There is still some disagreement in the medical profession of the actual preventative function of Lutein and Zeaxanthin present in the diet to be a factor in reducing the risk for advanced stages of age-related macular degeneration.

Many investigators seem to agree that there may be other nutritional factors working in concert with Lutein and Zeaxanthin, in order to maintain a healthy functioning eye. Several other components appear to be also important, such as Luteolin, Lycopene, mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), alpha-Lipoic Acid and Zinc.
Bilberry and Quercetin may also aid substantially to maintain a well functioning healthy vision.
Each of the components found in the eye tissues may have different function at different times, but may complement each other due to their distinct antioxidant effects in the control and protection against oxidative stress. The latter may be the cause of the subsequent cell death due to their destructive action on photoreceptors.

It has been found that most of the diets people eat are inadequate in some or most of the components present in healthy eyes. It is therefore, advisable to support even a so-called nutritionally well balanced diet with adequate amounts of a supplement containing the most essential components. Lutein and Zeaxanthin, found in the healthy retinal tissues should be administered in combination with additional nutrients in order to exert an optimal effect on the vision.

Piperine (Black Pepper Extract) will aid the intestinal absorption of some of the plant materials and further enhance the activity of the Multicomponent product.

Not only should attention be paid to the macula, but to other parts of the eye as well, such as the retina and the health of blood vessels in the eye, thus supporting further a strong central vision well into the 70’s and 80’s.

The main aim of any formulation should bear in mind to supplement a healthy diet and supplying some of the often missing individual agents, often present at inadequate levels in the even most complete diet.
